KARMA AND NIGERIAN POLITICS

Karma can be said to be the idea or belief that one reaps what they
sow, we often hear people talking about ‘the law of karma’ or referring to it in conversations. It is believed
that whatever you do to someone, you will get the same treatment
from someone else. This article looks at this belief taking Nigerian politics as a case study.

Politics in Nigeria is very special in the sense that things that do not happen elsewhere can happen here and nobody will bat an eyelid. Nigerians just grumble and move one and those who choose to dwell on the matter may not have much time to do it as another blockbuster headline will pop up before you know it and
you cannot do anything about it. Let’s take a look at the happenings
in Rivers state involving the Mr. Nyesom Wike, the former governor Rotimi Amaechi and a background player who is the former first
lady of the federal republic of Nigeria. It may still be early days but I feel karma is catching up to the current governor as he now faces a re-run of the gubernatorial election within 90 days.

When Governor Wike was sworn in, he immediately started witchhunting his predecessor and accusing him of
so many things ranging from misappropriation of funds, embezzlement etc. He set up committees probing Amaechi’s activities while he was in office. I remember Amaechi saying elections were not held in many part of the state, we all know the aftermath of the elections but i want to focus on the present now. Amaechi is now a minister and it is looking increasingly
likely that he will be made Minister of Niger Delta affairs which means another chapter in their interesting
battle will continue.
Amaechi recently accused Wike of diverting large sums of money and
this to me looks like the beginning of karma catching up to Wike.
When Amaechi is given portfolio by President Buhari, you just know that he will continue his battle with Wike, and if he is made the minister of
Niger Delta affairs, Wike will definitely be on the receiving end of
many things and the former first lady of this country who is also from
Rivers state and has been said to be the ‘god-mother’ of Wike too may
be in line of the fire. There will be more on this topic very soon but
for now, I urge you all to sit back and watch the unfolding drama keely.
